The Story Behind "Spittin' Image"

Released December 7, 2018 — the same day XXXTentacion's posthumous album dropped. That wasn't planned, but it felt fitting given how much his sound influenced this project.

Songs like "El Chapo," "Sunshine," and "Taking Out the Trash" live on this EP. To this day, I still love the engineering on "Taking Out the Trash." That's where you can first hear the grit and ruggedness in my voice — the earliest remnants of my vocal identity.

This was my first project where I was ONLY an artist. I had quit the mutual fund job I had lined up after college. I made the conscious decision to go all-in on music. It was really hard financially, but this project showed real improvement. I still listen to it sometimes and think "yeah, this was significant growth."
